Plant/Process Description:
The Riverside Drive Water Treatment Plant was
constructed in the early 1950's and has a
treatment capacity of 25 million gallons per day
(MGD). During FY02 renovation and upgrades to the
treatment plant were completed. These
improvements, including the addition of a raw
water intake structure with pumps and piping to
the plant, totaled a cost of $19.3 million.
The treatment process begins as raw water is
withdrawn through two water intake structures,
with pumping capacity provided by four vertical
pumps with rated capacities of 25 MGD, 18 MGD, 15
MGD, and 8.5 MGD. Raw water is pumped to the
filter plant through three pipelines with
diameters of 16, 24 and 36 inches. Finished water
is stored in two-million gallon and five-million
gallon clear wells located at the water plant, a
five million gallon ground storage reservoir, and
five elevated storage tanks with an aggregate
storage capacity of 2.85 million gallons. During
FY02, water demand averaged 17.3 MGD, with a
maximum daily demand of 24.5 MGD.
